In late 2015 we were invited to use our imagination to create a space for enjoyment and contemplation in the grounds of Boghall Parish Church. Excited about the challenge we invited local residents and church goers to become part of a steering group to develop ideas and designs. The project soon got under-way with a programme of open research days to encourage wide involvement, publicise design ideas and how the space could be used in different ways by the community.

Open days have involved multi media local history days, wordsmith days, cooking and gardening workshops. Our passion is to bring as broad a range of people and interests to the Sanctuary project. The open days have also brought many new ideas and local references to the project such as,  local history past and present, handed down recipes and traditions, local flora and fauna all of which have informed the design process.

As the project progresses we continue to make more connections with other skills and knowledge in the area. We are working with the Brock Garden Centre to oversee the wild flower, herb and perennial planting in the space, while the Broxburn Wood Craft Group is bringing their expertise in traditional wood craft skills to create seating and boundary areas of the space. This ambitious project will create a space that is attractive, functional for groups and individuals to use for many years to come.
